Hello Grade 5/6 Families,
Just a quick reminder that
tomorrow is our field trip to Studio Bell. Please ensure your child arrives to
school on time.
Today, students had the
opportunity to view the proposed policies of each of the federal parties
running in next week’s election. In partners, students reviewed each party’s
position on one of the following campaign issues: economy, education &
training, environment, housing, energy, transit, healthcare, childcare,
pharmacare, indigenous issues, international relations, immigration and justice.
To complete their research students used the Pollenize Canada 2019 site
to record and compare political party philosophies.
In response to their research, students began to articulate which positions appealed to their own value system:
“I liked how the NDP is
trying to fight privatization and user fees in the healthcare system because I
believe healthcare should be public and free.” ~ A.H.
“The Liberals are going to
ban semi-assault weapons and enable municipalities to determine their policies. It makes sense
for hunters and police to have guns but not for anyone else. I don’t feel it’s
necessary for people to have those kinds of weapons.” ~ A.C.
“The NDP and Green party will
maintain carbon tax, which is good because they will use it to slow down
climate change.” ~ V.B.
“I don’t like the People’s
Party philosophy on housing. They are basically saying ‘this is your problem, not ours.’ I like the Green Party because
they are planning to invest in energy efficient co-op units to try and make
housing more affordable and efficient.” ~ P. W.
