In social studies today, students had the opportunity to
explore questions including:
What
is politics?
Why
should we respect others’ opinions and viewpoints?
In this lesson, students explored different opinions and
viewpoints in a mock school improvement project. They used their powers of persuasion
to try to convince their classmates to agree with their idea. Student’s ideas included concepts such as:
·
building a green house
·
renovating and expanding the gym
·
building an outdoor gym area
·
purchasing a 3D printer
·
adding lockers
·
supporting mental health through
services and programs.
Through the activity, students were introduced to the
concept of politics and the goals and actions of political parties and
candidates. In a consolidation activity,
students then reflected about politics and the value of differing opinions
and viewpoints.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and a happy
Thanksgiving!
