Monday, September 30th, 2019

Happy Monday,

In recognition of Orange Shirt Day, we discussed residential schools and the ongoing process of reconciliation.  We also completed a poem analysis of I Lost My Talk by Rita Joe.

In math today, we worked on a grade 5 number sense objective by using 10 blocks to create a visual representation of 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication equations.  We will continue to work with array models before moving onto solving these operations with a standard algorithm.

In science, we continued to work on the grade 6 evidence and investigation unit by learning how hair and fibre can be analyzed to link suspects to a crime scene. We used microscopes to then look at our own hair and identify the root from the hair shaft.

Reminder, Scoop Troop has their spelling test on Wednesday, October 2nd.

Hello Parents,

Just a friendly reminder that Monday, September 20th is Orange Shirt Day and students have the opportunity to show their support for reconciliation in a caring, safe, respectful and inclusive school community. Please support and encourage your child in wearing an orange shirt.

Today in math, students worked through a variety of multiplication strategies which included expanded notation, modified standard form, and the standard algorithm. Their learning goal was to become proficient in at least one appropriate and efficient strategy that they understood.

Happy Wednesday!

Reminder to please return field trip forms as soon as possible. Thank you in advance!

In math today, our learning objective was to apply mental math strategies when multiplying, especially when working with multiples of 10, 100 and 1000.

In science, we continued with our grade 6 unit in Evidence and Investigation.  We are now looking at footprints as evidence, and how accidental and class characteristics can link a suspect to a crime scene.
