In English Language arts today, we developed our written language skills by exploring how personification can enhance the meaning and imagery of a text.  In order to meet this grade 6 objective, we first looked at the definition of the term and then shared examples:
The flowers begged for water.
The wind screamed as it raced around the house.
Lightning danced across the sky.
Provided with a nature themed topic, student partners then chose appropriate verbs which could be paired with their main idea.

After delving into a few picture book examples of personification poems, students chose their poem topic and will start next week by constructing their own personification poems!

This afternoon, we gathered at the top of our hill and ran for Terry Fox!  Students worked hard to complete laps and show their support for this very important cause. If you didn’t have an opportunity to send your toonie in support of the run, feel free to send it along tomorrow.

Don’t forget next Thursday night is our Potato Potluck. I look forward to seeing you all there!
