Happy Thursday!
Today in maker stations,
several students participated in this week’s STEM challenge. With only pipe cleaners,
popsicle sticks and q-tips, students were challenged to build the longest ‘bone’
bridge possible.
Criteria:
- must
hover at least one inch above the build surface
-
must measure at least 1 in. wide
Constraints:
-
use only materials provided
-
30 minute time frame
-
gaps between planks must be small enough that a penny laid flat could not fall
through
Only a few students managed
to create a free-standing bridge given the requirements. Students will have the opportunity to attempt
the challenge again next week.
Note: In math, students will be writing multiplication tests in the coming weeks. To start, please have your child work on the 2x & 4x
tables. As we are working on doubling and
halving computation strategies, these are good numbers to pair together for
studying purposes.
