Happy Friday,
Hoping students had a great
first day to their weekend. Just a quick
update on this weekend’s homework. Students had received a presentation on
Thursday afternoon regarding self-regulation strategies, and they learned three
steps to help them focus themselves in the classroom. The three steps were: be active, be strong
and be ready. Students then received a
blank template in which they could create their own individual strategies for
each of the stages. We will collect
these on Monday so that we can create a class set for utilization in the
classroom.
A brief description of each
step:
Be active – an active
activity that can be done in the classroom (e.g. running on spot)
Be strong – a strength
building activity (e.g yoga pose, balancing on one leg, etc)
Be ready – a quiet breathing
sequence.
Yesterday, students in our
class showcased their finished art project, and Ms.Elder’s grade 4/5 class was
invited to attend and provide feedback. The art project which was originally
inspired by our reading of What Do You Do
with a Chance? The finished art pieces
were accompanied with the student’s explanation and personal connection. The combined artistry and reflective write-ups were very powerful and inspiring, and the students did a wonderful job in expressing their inspiration and creativity.
